While any attempt to convert an innercity green area like Dartmouth Square in Ranelagh, Dublin into a car park is to be condemned it is understandable. While Dublin City Council continue to operate both a cartel and monopoly on Dublin City’s parking permits, clampers and parking meters any attempt to undermine their power in this area has to be welcomed.

Recently, Mr. Noel O’Gara reputedly purchased Darthmouth Square for less than €10,000 and is currently offering all-day parking for €10. A considerable cost saving given that Dublin City Council charge €2.50 an hour on streets near the square. Dublin City Council’s immediate response was to mount a legal challenge to prevent Mr. O’Gara from using the park as a car park citing that it is a material change of use and needs planning permission.

I should have some photos tomorrow.

It official and its direct from Dublin City Councils website. Earlier today, Dublin City Council added a selectable option to their Contact Us page which allows visitors to let their Customer Services division know exactly what they think of the Director of Traffic Owen Keegan.

You would think that Dublin City Council could afford to pay for decent webmasters.

ClampersYou rent a flat in Dublin and is costs €750 for 2 years for a residential parking permit – maximum 1 permit per household. You own your own house and it costs €130 for two years and you can get three.

Hmmmm. I hear you say. Are you sure about that?

Read this then – http://www.dublincity.ie/Images/Bye-Laws%202005%20as%20adopted%20May%2005_tcm35-12820.pdf

Yes ladies and gentlemen. The Office of the Director of Traffic and the Dublin city councillors which ratified the Parking Control Bye Laws (2004, 2005 and now 2006 will be the same) believe that flat dwellers should pay extra.

Almost 6 times extra.

Six times.

SIX FECKIN TIMES AS MUCH!

Holy God Almighty, Mr. Keegan. Maybe its because home owners have all those bin charges to pay.
